Hello
Is it possible to express BER(Bit Error rate) in dB?
If yes then HOW?
What is the relation b/w traditional BER and BER in dB?
Please explain.

Re: about BER

dB is a ratio. You cannot express a single number in this format. The closest thing would be to state what change in Eb/No would be required to get to the BER you desire.

about BER

that's no dB

about BER

dB is a log ratio of 2 parameters.

It make no theoretical sense to take BER dB unless it is normalize to some other parameter.

Re: about BER

no. but you can represent ber as log10 ber. It is not db.

about BER

I suspect it is a graphical representation on a chart where the axis is in log.

about BER

BER is a function of SNR. You can express SNR in dB not BER.

Re: about BER

Decibel is artificial (non existing in nature) parameter. It can be used to express any value: ratio between voltages, currents, volumes of sales, or water usage and so on. It is just mathematical way to represent the numbers. Nobody use decibels to express water usage or financial performance, but it is possible. Technically we may express BER in dB, it is just not used by engineers. But for some RF system calculations when sensitivity is involved it is convenient way to express processing gain in dB. This may lead to convey BER in dB because it can simplify the sensitivity equation.
