why PLL layout difficult compared to others

what are the techniques we have to use while doing PLL layout, especially VCO.
why it is difficult.
now which technolgy is using for PLL (mean 90nm or 130nm or 180nm). one more question , why charge pump is so difficult than VCO.
can anybody tell about CCO , in which case we will use VCO and in which case CCO.
can anybody answer to my questions

Layout techniques?
I think the most important consideration for layout is matching and parasitic reduced.
Especially for high frequency.

Charge pump should be mached woundfully because it will affect the bandwidth and spur of PLL.

For high performance design, we will use LC-tank VCO.
For large tuning range, it should be CCO.

noise is important for pll,so measures have to be taken to decrease it,such as using shielding?
