Help me with making a GPS module for a car

Hi
I am thinking of doing work with gps module, here is my idea
1. take a gps receiver module and interface it with a controller
2. somehow download the google map of my city
3. Display the map on the LCD in my car
4. Display the location of my car with marker on LCD on the map.

I need help in
1. which gps reciever module will be good and also cheap
2. how i can download the google maps as my google satellite maps downloader is not working
3. how i will interface the lcd and above all is my procedure correct

Congrats for selecting the project.

Let me clear few points to you.
1. You can take fastrax GPS module low cost, or SIMCOM, or wavecom.
2. google map are all paid features, so you cannot download GPS map free of cost.
3. These receivers want only TX and RX pins as our serial communication. So you can interface GPS to serial port.
4. LCD is common, you can interface as you normally do.

done this project 3 years back. come back for any help.
