max232 capacitors

hi. is it ok if i will use 10uF/6.3v and 1uF/6.3v 2125SMD capacitors instead of 1uF/16v and 10uF/16v electrolytic capacitors on a max232 ic for data cable use?

thanks

max232 capacitor

I think this might be a problem because the voltage the max232 generates is about +-8 Volts.

It is really a good idea to use 1uF capacitors rated for 16 volts.

best regards

max232 10uf

@C-Man:

how about smd capacitor with 10v rating? and is it ok if i use a non-polarized smd capacitor?

ic max232

Non polarized cap is OK but 10 V is very tight, I would not risk that if I were you.

If this is for a hobby project it should be no big deal but if you are going to sell a product where this is built in I would not take the risk as capacitors must not fail imediately by overvoltage.

best regards

max 232 ic

a 1uF/25v non-polarized smd capacitor would be nice already?

thanks.

max232 ic

By using a MAX232A (instead of MAX232) a small 100nF ceramic cap is possible. Take a look at the datasheet:

Mik

btw: Sipex is cheaper than Maxim

max232 capacitor values

Be carefully with the use of less than 1uf, some MAX232 manufactures don't support lowers capacity, and others yes, you must see the datasheet of manufacturer of MAX232 you have in your hands 1uF will work with all cases (but .1uF ....).

Peaks in max232 are around 12v, so you must use capacitors with 16v or more in the isolation.

max 232 capacitor

i'm using icl232 with 1u / 16V 0805 non polarized cap in all my projects without any problems.

best regards

max232 ceramic capacitor problem

u have to use tantalim cap. those would be best
but i have used paper capacitors of 10U too.
but tantalim r highly recomended

capasitors with max232

hi,
the voltage of capacitors must be at least 10V. 1uF in sufficient and there is no need for 10 uF.

capacitor max232

use the max233 instead , and there is no need for exterior caps

capacitors in max232

@behzadkh:

hi. so it is still safe for me to use a 1uF/10volts SMD ceramic capacitor on max232 for data cable application?

capacitor in max232

Hi,

I have seen many practical circuits used in variou equipment, they
mostly use 22uF / 16 V electrolytics or 10uF /16V tantalum capacitors.

Hope this helps.

purpose of capacitors in max232

salam,i have designed a serial card but when i send data on hyperterminalit gives me dummy values.does this have any thing to do with the capacitors i used.i used 22µf/50v polar capacitor.urjent!!
