Hello,

for the RF-Test of modern Transceiver Chips (Bluetooth, GPS, WLAN, etc.) the minimal receive power is specified as -145dBm (for example).

Isnt it unrealistic to establish such low sinusoidal signals.

I am thinking about our test equipment, and I cant believe that -145dBm is still above the noise floor.

-145dBm = 3.16 E-15 mW = 3.16 E-18 W = 12.5 nVRMS for 50 Ohm sytem.

Thank you for any comments.

Yes but this is a "Limit" for the signal. In addition to, there should be a S/N ratio to receive a certain quality signal depending on modulation scheme and bandwidth

Some very expensive SA's have such noise floor but there should be very tricky circuit topologies.

Yes, -145dBm is under the noise floor, but it's the fact.
We can only get the GPS signal lower than -119dBm.

But I think the signal of Bluetooth and WlAN will higher than -119dBm.
