communication between microcontroller and pc

Hi all,

I've been working with microcontrollers for a while now and one of the first things I wanted to do was to communicate with my PC. Well, after some research I ended up designing a module to take care of the logic level translation that is required when communicating serially between TTL/CMOS logic levels and RS232 logic levels. To my surprise others inquired about my module and hence M5 Control Systems was born.

I'm not just here promoting my module. I designed the module because I love this stuff and was suprised that there was a demand for it. I will gladly answer any questions regarding serial communicaton between a microcontroller and a PC, PCB design/manufacturer, or anthing for that matter. Below is a link to the module for anyone interested.

They're quite a few of those level shifter designs out there. Have been for years.
These days USB to Serial TLL are popular as RS232 ports are disappearing fast.

Yeah, unfortunetely I did not know about them until after I designed it. It wasn't a lack of research on my part but more of just not knowing what to search for. Most of the ones on the market in my opinion are over priced. I tried to price mine very fairly. Time will tell.

Thanks. Well, it is funny. I really just wanted to go through the process of having a PCB made as a learning experience. I had 10 made initially (an older design) because it was $51 for three or $90 dollars for 10. I went with 10 and decided to see if the others would sell and to my surprise they did. I decided to do a redesign and a larger run that would actually allow me to make a little money. The entire experience has been great and I'm currently working on other projects as well.

BlueRoom,

Thanks for the heads up. I found the broken img links problem. Much thanks.
