hi, all
I read a paper recently.
TITLE: A 113-dB SNR oversampling DAC with segmented noise-shaped scrambling

ISSUE: IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, vol. 33, pp. 1871 - 1878, December 1998

The author said that it is well the intersymbol interference problem can be solved by using a return-to-zero code.

But what's the intersymbol interference ? thanks in advance.

I haven't read this paper, but intersymbol interference occurs due to limited bandwidth, the pulses get spreaded which would cause a pulse to interfere with the next pulses causing error at detection of other pulses.

This may be help:

n telecommunication, intersymbol interference (ISI) is a form of distortion of a signal in which one symbol interferes with subsequent symbols. This is an unwanted phenomenon as the previous symbols have similar effect as noise, thus making the communication less reliable. ISI is usually caused by multipath propagation and the inherent non-linear frequency response of a channel. Ways to fight against intersymbol interference include adaptive equalization and error correcting codes.

Good luck!~
