As simulator for communication systems, which one is more efficient: ADS or MATLAB?

Matlab is programming. Hence more theoretical.
ADS is designing. More applicable to real designs.

Stick with ADS.

Matlab is cheaper than ADS. You can even do basic/Block level System design on
an Excel Spread sheet.

You would only use ADS if you are doing a more complete (with circuits)
system design. ie if you have S-Parameters of your Amps and models of your
mixers, antenna, Passive components ect...

Hope this helps

Hello mbyoussef,

Their is a powerful & easy to use Communication System analysis tool available from AWR Inc., called Visual System Simulator (VSS)...

RFA Architectural planning tool

RF budget cascaded measurements

A large selection of intuitive-to-use measurement parameter windows

Mobile WiMAX solution

Modulated signal sources with easy-to-define parameters

Back and forward propagation of time step

New fixed point models

Integration with industry-leading test instrumentation

A variety of RF chain impairment analysis methods

ADS may be better.

hello,

Behavioral program based systems can be integrated with semiconductor component based systems in ADS whereas in matlab we cant do that for detail analysis. One advantage of MATLAB is we can simulate broad range of systems like mechanical, electrical and mathematical, biological ,electrical systems in behavioral manner.

ADS is quite popular for RF circuits and systems simulation in both ways semiconducotr device based circuits as well as behavioral language based circuits (like verilogA).

Hi

Design in Matlab is easier but is more applicable in ADS. You can use both for better design. At the first starat system design in matlab, then use the results to implement your circuit design in ADS.
