Hi friends

I am having basic doubt ,what is the use of prescaler and postscaler in PIC micro controller. What i want to know is what actually they do in PIC.:D

can u give the details of prescaler and postscaler

Re: one basic doubt

Hi,
Prescaler divides the input pulse before the counter and the post scaler divides the output of the counter, both effectively increasing the range of the counter.

Re: one basic doubt

Both prescaler and post scaler are used to get our desired frequency from a basic reference.

The prescaler divides the ref frequency by some speific facor( that is entered into the clock register/ PLL register) and thus helps in reducing the frequency.

Post scaler does the opposit function

Re: one basic doubt

How can we know that by what factor we have to put, to reduce the frequency..........hope u understood my doubt..

Ans:
That is depending upon ur o/p freq requirement.
Search the datasheet for specific formulae.
They will provide the formula for calculating the o/p freq. From that we can put the valaue and find it out by calculations.
