Sending data from weather station to PC

Is it possibile to "sniff" data transmitted by **broken link removed**using a PC and a device like**broken link removed** or this?
I have little experience in PIC projects and big experience in computer programming.

I already have a 433 MHz weather station, but it does not store data, while I'd like to use it to monitor weather changes during day, weeks, months...
 

Hi,
I think your 'first this ' should be ok as it gives easily interfaceable RS232 interface, but at a very high price. You have to note both do not have FCC approval and antenna. Will 500 feet coverage will suffice your application?

actually, 50 meters would be enough: that's the distance anong weather station and my PC...

Do you know any other cehaper solution? ANy guy which already attempted connecting weather stations to PC?
 

Hi,
You can probably Google and find out alternative cheaper RF products if any exists, since I think this band of HF is being promoted as licence free band by others also. Atmel also may have an RF product for such applications? If the distance is only 50 meters and if wired solution is acceptable, you can use either RS485 or simple FSK modems to send data across. You can also send FSK or DTMF data over a telephne line for such applications.

ops, I meant 50 FEET! (15-20 meters).
But no, wired solution is not acceptable, as I'd like to use the wireless weather station I already have.
 

I bring up this old thred because I successfully sniffed and decoded signals sent by an Oregon Scientific wireless temperature sensor:

I attached an Arduino board to the receiver in the base station, but I think any 433 MHz receiver should be good to sniff the 433 MHz signal.
