interface between PIC microcontroller and PS joypad

microcontroller joypad

hello all:
i am now working on a project making a manual robot, and i want to control the robot using PS joypad which i think it sends data serially, so i want to know if i can interface the PS joypad with PIC microcontroller as i know that the PIC 16f877 microcontroller has a USART.
please if anyone can help i will appreciate it very much, and thanks inadvance.
