usb to parallel chip

Hello,

retail USB-to-parallel converter are often using Prolific PL2305 chip and associated drivers. **broken link removed**

However, as far as I experienced, they are not suitable for legacy LPT operation, e. g. operating an JTAG programming adapter. They support Windows printer driver but don't emulate parallel port hardware. I can't say for sure, that this would be impossible at any case, I only can say, that it's apparently impossible with usual driver.

For bit I/O connected to USB, the FTDI FT2232 could be used, they have also a lot of programming examples. But it won't work with a Xilinx, Altera, Lattice, Ponyprog, whatever parallel port adapter.

Regards,
Frank

I used revision 1.4 and am happy with it.

For prolific make sure prolific supports the chip before you use them.
