About the ADC SNR simulation!

adc snr

HI all

i am simulation a pipeline adc. I give a sine input, and do .tran simulation in hspice.

Then catch the 10-bit digital code to do fft in matlab.

Then i want to know, the fft results can give the SNR results? And is the noise compont

included in the tran simulation results?

What performance of adc can get from the fft results of tran simulation?

Hi,
That's right.
But in HSpice the result contains just quantization noise and distortion, and it cannot simulate thermal noise in switched-capacitor circuits.

So from hspice tran simulation results, we can get the

SDR value.

For my 11-bit adc, the simulation results of SDR is

only 54db. So exception of the distortion, what other

non-idea will influent my SDR? Why so much spur?

What it come from?

Hi,
There could be many reasons for that:
Make sure the opamps settle well in the sepecified time.
If you have a S/H at the input, it effects the THD and SNDR to a great extent. So make sure it has qualified behaviour.
The opamps in the first stages, e.g. the first and the second one have also important effect on the required SNDR.
Make sure the CMFBs work properly and are set well enough.
The way you calculate the SNDR is also vital.
The number of fft points is also important.
