Synplify vs Xilinx ISE

What performance gains have you seen using synplify vs the xst?

it will really depends what kind design you are planning to impliment, and alos depends on your coding skills

Advantage of Synplify Pro:
- Able to generate smaller & efficient digital netlist.
- Save the PC resource because you no need to open ISE when doing synthesis.
- More flexibility on setting the attribute & behaviour of digital circuit.

Disadvantage of Synplify Pro:
- Extra pay for software license.
- It change the netlist name which is not identical to netlist generated by XST.


For experienced FPGA designer, we all prefer to use Synplify Pro because it work perfectly and less bugs in software tool.

synplify sometimes give better result than the xst ,but i think xst will be gettin better for its own products , since the new architecture is used in v5 ...

I guess Synplify did well in V5 device

We are working with Xilinx ISE integrated with Synplify Pro for the synthesis step.

the bigger the design, the more performance gain you can get from synplify over xst

the higher level the design is descripted, the more performance gain you can get from synplify over xst

Is there any preformance difference when "Xilinx ISE integrated with Synplify Pro" and "Synplify Pro in standalone mode" for synthesis step?

The performance difference you will likely see will be the result of better routing as the Synplify tool will direct ISE to achieve better results.

Synplify supports Systemverilog for synthesis.
Xilinx XST (ISE) doesn't support Systemverilog (yet) -- Xilinx claims to begin Systemverilog synthesis in 2008. And it will probably be many more releases before the Systemverilog-support is good enough for real project (non-academic) use.

I like Altera Quartus-II for this reason -- it already support Systemverilog well enough to use on small projects.
 

xst vs synplify

advantages of synplifypro over XST
faster runtime,
Increased performance,
Effective algorithms for FSM extraction etc....
When a bigger design is considered Synplifypro is best compared to XST in all aspects
