virtual lpt

Hi, everyone..

There is a 2 channel usb to serial ic - FT2232.
it's made by FTDI, which is famous with virtual serial ICs.

This company provides 2 kind of drivers for FT2232.
- virtual comport
- direct access to I/O

Moreover, MPSSE supports 3 kinds of protocols.
- JTAG
- SPI
- I2C

The MPSSE is an abbrevation of "multi-protocol synchronous serial engine".
This is based on direct access I/O driver.

So, I think How I can make the FT2232 as virtual LPT on PC.
If possible, we can make a FT2232 as JTAG device on many IDE software using the LPT.
: ARM, AVR, MSP430, FPGA and CPLD(Altera & Xilinx), and ETC.

The FTDI produces several IC's. FT2232 is dual RS232 port with direct IO lines capability. With this IC is possible to make few things, among other JTAG or SPI driver (for a nice JTAG + Rs232 see http://www.ethernut.de/en/hardware/turtelizer/index.html ).

On the other hand if You would like LPT ususaly the FT245 is quite enough. I havenever used it so I have no personal experience with it, but I have heared that if You need fast set and reed from pins, like for JTAG it is not a good solution.

There is also some USB-LPT project on the net, I think it is done with AVRUSB and I think that the source is free, but it was quite long ago when I have read it.

Sincerely Yours,
Nenad Sakan
