pseudo random generator ic

Hi,

I need a "truely random" bit generator ic. It must not be "pseudo random"

I search over the internet but can only find a MCU from Atmel.

If it is possible to be implemented on a single chip, why there is no single ic dedicated for this operation.

Tundra semiconductor has a truely RBG module which occupies too much space on the pcb.

I need a small IC, not a module.

Anyone has some information?

Best regards.

Hi electro,

you could use a noise source and sample its sign. Because the bits should not be correlated between them, the bandwidth of the noise has to be large compared with the sampling frequency (so the correlation time is shorter than the sampling period).
But... why not a pseudo random generator based in linear feedback shift registers? It is easy, practical, and performance guaranteed!

Hi electro

Why is a PN generator not good enough? You can use a large sequence, so the lowest frequency will be really low.
Other possibilities are using so called 'gold sequences' or (better but much more complicated) fractal generators. All these circuits can be built with a single CPLD.

If you need realy random numbers or signals dont use another people's designs.

There is Truely Random Bit Generator in many Smart Card IC. You can use it.

In addition, RPG100 of FDK is a IC that generates Truely Random Bit compliant to the FIPS 140-1 spec.
