how to conveniently probe the internal signal on fpga?

when we do fpga verification, we have to probe the internal signal for debug, but we can't know which signals necessary wire out to observe previously. so if the signal not wire out after download, we have to redo P&R, it wastes lots of time,so I want to know some methods to observe the target signal without many times of iteration.

WEll !

Firstly try your best to Get every thing Right with the software tools

As for Debugging you decide the critical signals

especially at boundary of modules and bring them out all together once

and

The Best thing is Use software Like CHIPSCOPE

to view everything you need to see in REAL Time

Hope this is easily available to you

Thanks a lot, a valuable suggestoin. I would try on your method.

If u are using Aletra
Signal Tap II Analyzer can be used.

My FPGA device is Xilinx spartan 3,where can download free Chipscope?Chipscope
is software, how about its speed when running?

chipscope is a software for testing the signals only. we can debug the signal at any point in the design and can see the output getting.

hello everyone...
i am using chipscope for the first time.. i want to know how can i use the icon core and vio core that i have generated using chipscope core gen.

i have tried to insert both edn files in projct but ise refuses to take more than one edn file.I later on read somewhere that i need to insert these file in project dir .but that too was in vein.
help me plz....
