interfacing dot matrix printer to a pic

Hi,

Can anybody advice me on using 16f877a to interface a Parallel Dot Matrix printer?

I am planning to build a overlay kind of thing which can read ASCII data sent to printer from a PC or another microcontroller and some more ASCII data to it. If possible pls give a example C code for Parallel Printer interface.

Thanks,
Akhthar

Dear Akhthar;
-First must be know parallel printer port protocol on pc.Beacuse all printers working this protocol.
-May be found this protocol old printer documents.
- Epanorama very good site for electronics.

parallel dot matrix printer protocol

Hi Fuzzy,

Thanks for your reply. But I know Parallel interfacing. I even know how to give data to parallel printer. It is like post data to data port of the centronics port and give a strobe pulse. But I am not able to print by doing this. I just want to know, do I have to do any initialisation before posting data.

Thanks,
Akhthar

Dear Ali Khan;
-Long time ago I attach microcontroller to printer.
-There is no any initial code for dotmatrix printing.

-Do you know centronix port timing.And please use buffer for data bus and signaling..

I send message from TURKEY....
