What is pulse or data compression?

Benifits of compression in digital communication.

How it work in optical domain and its adavantages?

Re: Compression.....

pulse or data compression is the reduction in the number of bits used to represent a particular data.., the use of this compression is power efficiency, speed etc etc in whatever domain be it....

Re: Compression.....

Thnks.. How we relate this compression in terms power efficency and speed in optical domain.. give justification

Re: Compression.....

when the number of bits used to represent the data gets reduced then there is lesser bits to be transmitted which means the power needed to transmit the other bits is also saved and also more bits can be transmitted during this saved time,....

Re: Compression.....

compression is the removal of redundant bits from data prior t otransmission. This reduces the bandwidth requirement which is a linited and expensive resource. It also reduces the latency in transmission
