Hi,
I wan't to know opportunities after M.Tech in microlecetronics from IIT or IISc, Presently Im working in MNC in VLSI domain. I have 2 years of experiance, I did B.E in Electronics planning for Masters from Premiere institutes.

What are all your sugestion about my decesion

Thanks to all

I think u can grab very very good job through on-campus if u r doing masters frm IIT/IISC. Option of higher studies is also there. So in both way it's will be helpful.

Hi Shweta,
Getting masters from premiere institutes like IIT/IISc is good option for getting higher studies, but for job point of view there is not much usefull. The salaries are 20% high for fresh M.Tech grad compared fresh B.Tech grad, you have two years of experiance so, in industry point of view its equavalent to M.Tech from IIT/IISc. For doing masters it takes two years, from then again u have to do job so, it doesn't helps much in terms of salaries. My sugestion is continue with present job with two more years of experiance you will be in high position, this is if money is creteria.

This is my view, others may have different.

I think, if you are interested, it's better to do mtech in part time. YOu can search in internet.
becuae in vlsi industry masters adds you a value. at the same time you should not loose the corporate experience.
better do mtech with sponsership from your employer

Hi Shwetha,

Most of the companies in India look out people with Masters degree for fields like Analog Circuit Design or Digital Full custom circuit design. So if you are interested in Analog/Full Custom Deisgn then getting a Masters degree would certainly be helpful for you in long run.

Replying to this old thread as it would help many engineers having similar questions.

There are many engineers in top VLSI companies like int** with just polytechnic(diploma) in electronics. Most of them are from NTTF in Bangalore.
Successful engineers are those who joined industry as soon as they can and earned higher education part time. It is the number of years of experience that counts for industry and not the quality of education you have.

Studying in IITs is purely one's interest to get deep understanding of the subject which is rarely required for industry. Recruiters rarely give importance to the degrees and the colleges you are from. Studying from IITs might help to get job when one is a fresher. In the long run it is one's relation with the manager and the company needs that gets better opportunities.

VLSI Industry has very few jobs like Analog Design where the interest is to recruit the best talent with good education.
Most of the jobs in India are in domains like Physical Design, Analog/Custom Layout, Verification which doesn't need good education.

Few real examples to give an idea:
A person who completed polytechnic in 2003 joined qualc*** at 5K per month. With difficulty and hard work earns around 90K per month in 2012.
Another person who completed B.Tech in 2006 with hard work earns around 75K per month in 2012.
Another person who completed M.Tech VLSI in 2008 with hard work earns around 75K per month in 2012.
