making a small robot in hindi

Hello,

I am interested in low cost way of making robots be controlled by laptop wirelessly.

One way I succeeded is hacking commericially available cheap radio cars, but data transfer rate is severely limited.

I would like to learn a way to implement wireless into small robots. Cost is critical since the robots themselves will not be expensive, and I dont' want wireless stuff to cost half of the robot. (Could it be done under $20?)

I have experience in some analog and digital electronics; I prefer PIC.
I thought about Zigbee, but I am open to other suggestions.

Thanks.
