How USB flash drive/thumb drive works?

hii...anyone got any info on how USB flash drive/thumb drive works? Iam looking for a universal usb development kit that will read thumdrive memory if they become faulty, if there such a device it will be easier to read data off faulty usb thumb drives? Two most common memory used in thumbdrvies are HYNIX and SAMSUNG...ranging from 512k to 4G or more

any comments appreciated.
 

you need to start with USB2.0/1.1 standard. Data is exchanged via end points. You need to understand that also.
