how about digital PLL?

The said digital PLL consists of digital controlled oscillator, time to digital converter, and digital filter, and so on.

TI proposed this concept in 2005.

Is this a good topic for PHD thesis? What can be exployed then? Confused....

Thanks

Re: how about digital PLL?

Ti did more than propose them. Search IEEE Xplore for publications by Robert Staszewski, and you'll see a great amount of detail on what they've done. I'm sure there are a few more PhD dissertations there.

how about digital PLL?

It also depend on which technology you will use, probably it's not that easy for CMOS

Re: how about digital PLL?

TI did all their work on 130 and 90 nm CMOS

how about digital PLL?

yeah, TI have designed some ADPLL in the Tx DSP, but the DCO design is a tough task indeed, i think.

Re: how about digital PLL?

In fact, I also see some papers about digital PLL, however, the vco is sitll analog-based. You can search Prof. Perrott from MIT.

how about digital PLL?

it is a vaery good topic , but still , the DCO is a VCO with digitized control by the varactors ,

also the sampling mixer they propose is great topic

how about digital PLL?

it is good topic on the PH.D thesis, because the receiver is now digital receiver
