I am just a beginer fo FPGA and I've got to know a little about Maxplus2,but I still dont konw how to use the "Floorplan Editor".My teacher told me that I should not use this tool if not necessary, but he did not give me further explanation. Can you give me some ideas about this tool?

I think at least you have to doing "pin assignment" when you finish your CPLD project! seeing the "Getting Start" of MPII, you can download it from ALTERA's website, it's helpful for beginner.

tutorial for maxplus2

You can try to read this tutorial.

By default, Max-plus II would assigned ports in your design to the pins on the device automatically. Sometimes, one pin of A1 could be assigned far off from A2. So, Floorplan Editor is used for pin assignment. You can assign those 2 pins next to each other manually - using Floorplan Editor.

Note: Altera has a newer version of Maxplus II - called Quartus. It should have better features.
