I would like to build a circuit for a hartley oscillator and was wondering what design to best go for. The frequency should be around 500MHz. So I was thinking about whether to use discrete components and use an ugly board construction or rather go and buy an oscillator chip to which I can attach external cpacitors/inductors. (SA612A and better)

What do you guys think. Can anyone give some recommendations?
One more thing, I have to use a pretty large external capacitance of 60pF, meaning the inductor would have to be <1.7nH. Is that possible at all?

Cheers

I am not sure whether you can obtain 500 MHz with SA612 chip?

I thought the oscillation frequency is limited to 200 MHz if it is possible to obtain more than 200 MHz like say 437 Mhz. Please let me know. I also need such circuits.

Prakash.

I think a better approach is to use the MAX2620. You can achieve frequencies more than 900MHz. I will try and use this chip.
