hello,

I want to built up a big wall of about 400 lamps (each 30W 6V/5A).
I need to control the intensity of each lamp, so I thought that it
would be the cheapest way if I take ATX - Switched power supplies and
control the intensity by Puls-Width-Modulation. One ATX-powersupply has
about 30A at the 5V output. I use 2 powersupplies for 6 Lamps.
So I connect two 5V ATX in a serial way, then I have 10V / 30A
and with this supply I can change the intensity by turning it on/off with
pwm.

So far, so good, but I've heared that there could be a problem with
pwm-load in a switched power supply (because of the ripple-voltage and the
internal control circuit). Is this correct? or do I have
no problems in switching 30A on/off with a rather high speed.

What else should I take into consideration? (startup-current, net-pollution, ...)

Thx

Tommy
