Calculating value for precision rheostat

By referring to the link above, I find out the way to design the precision rheostat. I have designed a dc motor controller which has zero crossing detector+ triggering circuit for my scr to run my dc motor. I change the speed of my motor by adjusting the rheostat at zero crossing detector. May I noe is it possible that by replacing the rheostat part of my circuit with precision rheostat will increase my dc motor speed controller precision?

If so may I ask how to calculate the 3 rheostat value if my existing rheostat is 5K one. Thanks
