???Lightning problem

We have big trouble with lightning...
is there any idea- advice about protection system against to lightning...
also i want to make a protection system for electronic circuit which i make it. So is there any surge simulator circuit for control the effic. of the protection system.
Thank you so much for your helps.
Regards.

cheapest solution

The cheap solution is to put MOV devices across the power inlet lines of your equipment. These are now made by Littlefuse company. Here is a link to their catalog that has many application notes. **broken link removed**

Look around their basic web site and you will find other application notes on how to protect data lines and telephone lines.

In avionics, transzorbs and equivalent suppressors are frequently used. It is reasonably easy to protect against secondary lightning effects with these devices but it is not easy to protect against a direct strike. There are lightning simualtors but they are very expensive. The most expensive part is a high voltage and current capacitor. You will not find such a capacitor in your local component store. If you want to do some calculations in order to select protection components you might want to search for a document called "DO160". It has several example waveforms and with the transzorb datasheet you can select an effective prtotection part.
