Hi all:

Currently I am designing a class C PA. The simulation tools available for me is spectre in cadence environment.

I want to get two graphs:

Output Power vs frequency &
efficiency vs frequency (Pout/Pdc)

Which analysis should I choose and how to plot these two graphs?

Thanks a lot!

Re: How to simulate PA efficiency in cadence spectre simulat

In Cadence 5.141, directly PAE may be used in PSS analysis.Otherwise, Each input and output should have curent probe to measure the currents and of course with node voltages PAE and other important parameters can be simulated.

But better way is to ADS or RFDE, because in these simulators, to simulate some important parameters is easier by inserting formulas, equations etc.

For DC power H0 should be used.And general power equations must be as..

Power=0.5*Real(V(node)*Conjg(I(brach))) or
Power=0.5*Real(Conjg(V(node))*I(branch))

In ADS, Harmonic index can be defined as V[0] or as generalized by definition V[n]

I'd personally prefer to use ADS or RFDE for Power Amplifiers with Harmonic Balancesimulator engine.
