Re: protocol reset should be treat as syn reset or asyn rese

it will be more clear if you can define protocol reset

to stevepre, i can not understand what's your say!
for example, when i design usb device controller,
usb protocol reset should be treated as asnchronous
reset or asynchronous reset to my local register?

Re: protocol reset should be treat as syn reset or asyn rese

I see. That's what you meant "protocol reset".

Rule of thumb: use syn reset whenever you can. Use Asyn reset only when necessary.

Take your USB reset for example, if there's any chance that the reset being issued when clock is unavailable, use asynchrounous reset. But don't use it to reset all registers...reset those "necessary" registers.

very thx!!

another qusetion: how many clock should the protocol reset ?

You'd better treat protocol reset as asyn. reset. Performing syn. reset requires additional condition, it means, you may violate the protocol.
