does anybody know any good books on DTMF ? ebooks ? or can anybody tell me is there is any other alternative way instead of using DTMF ? thank you

Try this application note from Zarlink

Alternatives depend on your application. Dialling is always done either with pulse dialling or with DTMF. Data transmission can be done with FSK which is simpler.

DTMF is just the fine way for a lot of things
what IC do you use ?
I recommend MITEL and Zarlink
I had some sensibility problems with the input circuit using CMX
