monitor x y

Hi guys,
I have a HP 3581 wave analyzer and I am looking for BIG x-y monitor for it, I was wondering if it is possible to use computer CRT monitor for this purpose? eg. connect x-y to certain pin of the CRT connector?

Does any one know if waveform monitor can be used for this as well?

Thanks!

I don't think this can be done with any computer monitor as they are (similar to TVs) X -Time devices.
You can use an oscilloscope and instead of its internal time base select the X-Y mode ..

Hi Ian,
The reason why I am looking at tvs/monitors is because I want to use a BIG screen, oscilloscope are usually too small....

Thanks!

x-y monitor oscilloscope

TV tubes displaying Lissajou patterns were a common sight in Sci-Fi shows of the
60ies, so it shouldn't be too difficult.
However, as the vertical and horizontal deflection circuits are quite different in a
monitor (due to different sweep frequencies) you might need to build some driving
circuitry of your own. But please don't kill yourself... :?

I found some reading material: **broken link removed**

Re: x-y monitor??

Some years ago ATARI used vector monitors for their games.
Maybe, with a little bit of luck you will be able to get one of these vector monitors.
You can stat you search here:
http://www.gamearchive.com/Video_Games/Manufacturers/Atari/monitor.html
This site also includes schematics for vector monitors such as B&W G05 and colour G08.

Re: x-y monitor??

Does anyone know what is the difference between a vectorscope/waveform monitor and a vector monitor?

Re: x-y monitor??

Vectoroscope/waveform monitor is used in TV technique. It is capable to display colour components of a video composite signal in polar coordinates. It is allso specialized oscilloscope, waveform monitor, for displaying video signal. It uses CRT with electrostatic deflection or normal oscilloscope tube.
Vector monitor is XY monitor, it has X signal and Y signal inputs and display them like at x-y osciloscope mode. It uses CRT with magnetic deflection.
