MSP430F169: Do I need an external crystal?

The MSP430F169 has 3 clocks: 2 external and 1 internal... Do I need to use an external crystal, or will the internal one be used if non of the external ones are?

Yes, you can run MSP430x from DCO without any crystal at all. But depending on your application, the RC based oscillatior may have poor performance. (satibility over temp, years).
