most eda tool running under Linux platform is more fast than Solaris and linux server is more cheaper than sun or hp server, so there are more and more company choose Linux platform in the future, why EDA company port tools from sparc to linux????? low profit???

we know most eda tool work under redhat7.2 with kernel 2.4.20, however it is nightmare to support new hardware.

Re: why EDA company develop a compatible OS with linux compa

They just don't care.
Linux have too many version and hard to control.
Linux is not as stable as Solaris.
Compare to the Software price, Hardware is so cheap
So they just don't care

Re: why EDA company develop a compatible OS with linux compa

EDA companies have big customers, who can surely afford a Sun Workstation.

sparc machine and solaris os is very stable and realible OS . Swap and file system in solaris is robust to clash of OS. sparc machine is good for eda tools only due to robustic in performance

Hi

But there are some specific places that all things are not OK likly:

Artisan Memory Compiler runs only on HP-UX and Solaris not on Linux.

tnx

are you sure about this ??? currently big EDA vendor like Synopsys, Cadence and Mentor all have their products running on linux.

In my options:
Sun Sparc use for layout and outher Desktop relation operation.
But Linux(Intel or AMD) have more speed than Sun sparc when do large simulation or verification.

Redhat ES3.0 is the next baseline of Linux, almost all the EDA vendor like cadence synopsys mentor all make their main tools running on this version.
Such as,IC5141,SOC41,DC,Calibre etc..
