Can I connect a USB cable to the RxD and TxD pins of the 8051 to transfer code to the IC? or is there some other fairly straightforward way to do it?

Thanks in advance.

Re: burn code into 8050 IC

Different x51 chips have different in-circuit programming features, e.g. programming through UART using an embedded bootloader.

You need to specify the used x51 type to get a meaningful answer.

Hi,

A USB cable has VCC, GND, D+, D- signals only. No RxD, no TxD.

You need an USB to UART converter (cable) with CMOS or TTL level outputs.
Check if the signal levels comply with the microcontroller levels.
