i have been tasked with cost-reducing a product that uses a connector with built-in EMI filtering (at a significant cost).

This is my first run-in with these types of connectors and I was wondering, in general terms, if there is a significant advantage to using them over implementing a filter on the pcb with discrete components?

To answer the question, you'll look at connector type and filter specification (frequency, attenuation, current and voltage rating).

Hi,

I´d say a filter connector is easy to use .. but it has limited attenuation.
You are more flexible with dedicated filter devices, but on the other side you need some knowledge/experience to make it work like desired. PCB layout is very important.
