acceptable voltage drop for power line 1V?

Hello everyone,
To get power measurement I have to need to locate a resistor on the power line and measure the voltage across with an oscilloscope. The challenge is that the how much resistance shunt for power line 1V. Acceptable voltage drop for power line 1V?
help me.
 

Hi,

What is connected to the power line (if external)? Read the datasheet(s) to find out valid voltage range.

If inside an ASIC, then the ASIC datasheet should tell you.

Use the smallest ohm value that gives you a sensible reading. If your meter displays units down to 0.1 V, then a 1V reading gives you about 10% accuracy. (Because the next figure down is 0.9 and the next figure up is 1.1.)

A low ohm value also permits lowest watts dissipation (heat). I purchased a number of 1 ohm rectangular sandstone resistors from Radio Shack. 10W each. 10% tolerance. They are handy for taking power measurements in the manner you describe. They can be strung in series, or hooked up in parallel.
