Hi can any one explain circular symmetry matching?

Hi can any one explain circular symmetry matching by using this matching how we can cancel the gradient effects. I know the one formula and i dont know how it works.

Formula:
p1(xy)=G1(XY)+C
 

I guess common centroid is meant.
