Proximity PCB button layout question

This will be a 2 layer PCB. Touch surface will be hatched ground except where the two touch pads are. Bottom layer will be used for signal routing and hatched ground plane in all unused areas. All components will be on the bottom layer. The touch pads will be abut 0.5" round. I was planning to use one via in the top sensor pad to bring the signal to the sensor IC. does this make sense?
