why we are using poly orientation

hai,
can any one explain me why we are following the poly orientation in lower node.
 

There are some lithographies where only one orientation
of poly is allowed, in order to make it possible to pattern
very finely. I sat in some presentations on this but have
not paid much attention since, I do not use such fine
nodes.
