    vhdl read textio with delimiters in the read file

    Hello all,

    I can read in a file using vhdl, and I can compartmentalise it based on space ' ' delimiter, however I want to be able to split the read line based on a different delimiter...primarily '|'.

    The code below will read the text file quoted below. However I want to be able to read the second quoted text file.
    Doing so will give errors about | not being and int or std_logic or whatever.

    VHDL does not contain any standard code to do this - if you need to break up a string based on other delimeters, you need to parse the string yourself manually.

    If you're happy to use protected types (you need to use VHDL 2002 or later) then your problem is something I came up against a long time ago, and wrote this:
