Please, could anyone point to some really lightweight protocol for point-to-point high-speed serial communications (over 400Mb/s) for FPGAs like Altera Cyclone-V, or similar devices with high-speed transceivers?.

I need to implement eight channels inside a low cost FPGA, so that's why I emphasize "really lightweight".

Thanks in advance,

A purely serial (single data line) protocol at these speeds will definitely require to use a SERDES.

You can implement a custom SPI-like interface. It will require 3 LVDS pairs.
