for forward and reverse stepper control, should i go for a dedicated chip like 6600 or can i manage with a pic micro, i want to use in cnc using mach3
 

Use Specific Chip u have no details of Stepper driver else design ur own driver
 

Its better to use a dedicated chip if you have one.
 

Which is the best dedicated chip ?,
from allegro or TI ?
 

TI best due to good technical support, price & easy available. Free sample also available for specific range
