Is the DVD drive assembly in the DVD/CD-RW drive in the PC compatible
with the DVD drive assembly in stand alone DVD players of different
brands or atleast within the same brand such as samsung ?

Are there any standards for the DVD drive assembly programming interface
such as the IDE/ATA programming interface for PC ? There are a couple of
white ribbon cables that connects the main board to the DVD drive
assembly in the samsung stand alone DVD player.
Are there any published standards for these ?

The ATAPI and SATA interfaces are well documented but to save costs in many stand-alone DVD players, the motor controllers are moved to the main PCB. There is no standard for doing this, it varies from drive to drive and between manufacturers. If you have a single 40 or 80 way cable its likely to be standard ATA and drives can usually be interchanged but with other cables it is almost impossible.

Brian.
