AC to DC conversion is called rectification, but DC to AC? Is it called inversion?

can it be called inversion because we use inverters for this.

Yes. Some times conversion from DC to AC, as it is a CONVERTING process.
 

There's no visual complementary term, I think. The traditional term chopper respectively chopping is probably the best one.

But i thought that chopping will simply cut a part of our signal frequently for a certain time period. like parts of our signal will be eliminated from the o/p of chopper. Are choppers really used inside the inverters?
