What is DDR PHY? Is It Part Of Verification Job?

What exactly does PHY mean? Is it part of job functions of a verification engineer?
 

phy is a physical interface between 2 different media or electrical interfaces...like serial 2 usb interface etc...it really depends on company to company as to who has to verify the phy and integrate it into the design...
