Hi all.
I would like to connect an rs232 line from a pic microcontroller to the PC. I understand that I need an IC called a Max232 in order to convert the logic levels. But if I use the RS232 to USB converter, will I still need the MAX232?? Or can I plug it directly from my circuit to the PC?? Advice please.

Thanks in advance.

you need the MAX IC whenever you want to connect 2 devices...

even if you use converter you require this IC

Which converter you are using?

If you are using commercially available module then you need max232.
If you are assembling with ic's like ft232 or any other you can directly connect it to the micro

If you're using USB<=>TTL logic converters like PL2303 or FT232 there is no need to hook up MAX232.
