Distance Measurement

Hello,

In my project, I need to detect object within 1-5m range with Highest possible accuracy.

I have been given two options....

Ultrasonic sensor
IR pair

I am searching which one between two would be more accurate?

Kindly post your views about the same.

Distance Measurement

Ir works better for smaller distances. For 1-5m I would recommend you sonars. Off course it also depends distance to what want to measure.

I want to make my own IR proximity distance circuit not to buy from sharp or avago. Could you pls share a circuit diagram if you know? thx.
