How to convert 230V A.C to 5V D.C with out using transformer

can 440v ac given to 230v with diode

You will have to pas the safety tests of the countries you market these in. I suspect that you will have to use double, independent insulation of both your supply and the circuitry it powers.

It might be overall cheaper to use a 15 W transformer.

for the type of load , she defined, i feel SMPS is better as one could realize a smaller size for the power it could deliver.
