Help interfacing GSM module and microcontroller

Hi there.. THis is Prabhat.. I m a final year engineering student. I m planning to design a Digital Noticeboard. It requires a sms being sent from a cell phone and received by a GSM module and µcontroller connected to it displays the message on LCD.. I m having problem choosing components because we have to reason everything (even why we chose a particular µcontroller over others).. We are planning to use Atmel 89S52 µC (Please post if you have a better option).. A 4 line LCD would be sufficient to explain our principle. Can anyone suggest a GSM module & LCD module?? Also taking cost into consideration..

microcontroller with gsm module

hi i am also doin a project...same act. basically i wanted to ask if u have tried interfacing a gsm modem with a microcontroller using AT commands. if u hv reached that stage in ur project lemme know..i am facing a problem..will ask u then.
